Discover Dang Smoke Bbq

If you’re anywhere near Toronto’s east end and craving slow-smoked brisket, juicy ribs, and real-deal comfort food, Dang Smoke Bbq at 4 Greenwood Ave, Toronto, ON M4L 2P4, Canada is the kind of spot that pulls you in with aroma alone. The first time I walked in, the scent of hardwood smoke hit before the door even closed behind me. It wasn’t overpowering; it was that deep, slightly sweet smell that tells you the pit has been going low and slow for hours.

I’ve spent years tasting barbecue across Ontario and a few memorable trips through Texas and Tennessee, so I tend to be picky. Great BBQ isn’t just about sauce. It’s about patience, temperature control, and meat quality. According to the Kansas City Barbeque Society, proper low-and-slow smoking typically happens between 225°F and 275°F to break down collagen and create tender texture without drying out the meat. You can taste that technique here. The brisket isn’t rushed. The bark is dark and peppery, the smoke ring is visible, and the slices hold together without crumbling apart.

The menu leans into classic Southern-style barbecue while keeping things approachable for a Toronto crowd. You’ll find smoked brisket, pulled pork, St. Louis-cut ribs, and smoked chicken, alongside house-made sides like mac and cheese, coleslaw, baked beans, and cornbread. On my last visit, I ordered a mixed platter to get the full picture. The brisket was buttery with just enough resistance, while the ribs had that ideal bite-tender but not falling off the bone, which, by competition standards, is actually a sign they’re cooked correctly. The pulled pork, lightly dressed in sauce, had strands of smoky flavor running through every forkful.

What stood out most, though, was consistency. I’ve spoken to a few regulars who mentioned they’ve been coming back for months, and their reviews echo the same theme: dependable quality. That matters. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency sets strict food safety standards, and while diners don’t see the back-of-house process, you can sense when a kitchen is organized and disciplined. The staff here move with purpose. Orders come out hot, plates are cleanly presented, and there’s a clear flow between the smoker, prep station, and serving counter.

The space itself feels relaxed and unpretentious. It’s the kind of place where you can show up in a hoodie after work or bring a group of friends for a casual dinner. The location on Greenwood Avenue makes it easy to access from Leslieville and the surrounding neighborhoods. I’ve even noticed a steady takeout crowd-proof that their smoked meats travel well. If you’re ordering for pickup, the brisket sandwiches and rib combos hold heat and texture surprisingly well, which isn’t always the case with barbecue.

Barbecue, at its core, is about craft. Experts like Aaron Franklin of Franklin Barbecue often emphasize that wood choice, airflow, and timing are just as important as seasoning. While I can’t confirm exactly which hardwood is used here, the flavor profile suggests a balanced smoke-likely oak or a similar wood-because it enhances rather than masks the meat. That restraint shows experience.

Portion sizes are generous without being excessive. You leave satisfied, not overwhelmed. Pricing aligns with other quality BBQ joints in Toronto, especially considering the labor-intensive cooking process. Smoking meat for 10 to 14 hours requires planning, skill, and constant monitoring. It’s not fast food; it’s a slow craft.

There’s also something refreshing about how straightforward everything feels. No gimmicks, no overcomplicated fusion twists-just solid barbecue done right. Of course, as with any popular smokehouse, peak hours can mean a short wait, especially on weekends. That’s the trade-off for fresh batches coming off the smoker rather than pre-cooked trays sitting under heat lamps.

If you care about texture, smoke balance, and authentic pit-style cooking, this place delivers in a way that feels both grounded and confident. The combination of carefully smoked meats, classic sides, and a welcoming neighborhood vibe makes it more than just another BBQ restaurant in Toronto-it’s a spot you’ll likely find yourself returning to when that craving for real hardwood-smoked flavor kicks in.

  • Food was phenomenal. We got the brisket sandwich (nice and tender and my fav), the rib sandwich (prefer ribs on bone), kale salad and Mac and cheese. Service was a little slow but that’s because it was the dinner rush so that was ok. There’s only a few window seats to sit so it’s more of a take-out joint. Definitely recommend coming here for your bbq fix.

  • My partner and I have been coming here since 2023 and Dang Smoke BBQ makes the BEST smoked brisket/mac and cheese combo I've ever had. Sometimes, if I can't have a heavy meal, their kale caesar salad is an excellent alternative! Though $45 is pretty pricey for takeout, it is super worth it for the quality and freshness. If you want to support local for a hearty and delicious meal, look no further.

  • This place is AMAZING! We had the brisket which was succulent, juicy and fork tender. The Mac and Cheese was deliciously and surprisingly saucy and cheesy and those bread crumbs on top were just a lovely homemade touch. I was literally all melty and floating on a cloud after I ate ... so incredible!!! Two of us shared everything and it was the perfect amount of food (in fact, we had some leftover Mac and Cheese for a late-night snack)! There's a tiny little counter for eating, so this is primarily takeout but well worth it!

  • You need to try this place if you live even remotely close to it. Get the Brisket sandwich. No need to order ahead, it’s ready in less than 5 minutes. The meat was crispy on the outside and fell apart inside, and the sandwich was so stacked with meat that I had to take a layer off and eat it on the side. Top 3 BBQ I’ve had in Toronto, and probably the best value of the bunch in terms of portions/price.

  • Best brisket I've had in a while! I've eaten it all through the Midwest States, and this is among the best! Price was soooo much cheaper than it should be! My regular visits to Toronto now include a stop here!

  • Venturing into this restaurant after hearing of their triumphant food truck venture. As a New Yorker seeking flavors beyond the city limits, the brisket sandwich was nothing short of extraordinary, a perfect marriage of smoky tenderness and rich, savory seasoning. However, what truly enhanced the visit was overhearing the owner interact with customers. His genuine warmth and sincerity radiated through every conversation, creating an atmosphere that felt welcoming and personalized.

  • Insanely good… dare I say… dang good?! Their brisket is SO tasty… and my fries were still crispy upon receiving my DELIVERY order! I’m thrilled that they’re so close to my new apartment! Looking forward to being a loyal customer and bringing my partner here :) Thanks Dang Smoke, you’re awesome! <3
